Our vNIC Keynote Speakers - The highlights of the event?
To be honest, I’m so proud, that we have Ivan and Pere as keynote speakers for our vNIC Event in Frankfurt 18th and 19th of September 2018. Personally this would be a “good enough reason” to attend for myself. To make you familiar with Ivan and Pere I would like to introduce both here and also announce their keynote topic. Both of them will be at the event for discussion in the break before and after, so pick you chance to connect!
Ivan Pepelnjak (CCIE#1354 Emeritus and Ivan Pepelnjak, Independent Network Architect, ipSpace.net) has been analyzing OpenFlow technology and SDN ideas (and being pretty vocal about their shortcomings) since March 2011, resulting in a number of high-impact events, including chairing the technical roundtable of first-ever OpenFlow symposium in Silicon Valley in September 2011, various presentations and workshops at Interop, Troopers, RIPE and other regional ISP meetings, on-site SDN workshops for large enterprises and service providers, and vendor-sponsored webinars for NEC (describing their ProgrammableFlow solutions and SDN/OpenFlow in general), VMware (the first technical webinar describing VMware NSX after its launch in August 2013) and Nuage Networks (scalability challenges of overlay virtual networks). Ivan is the author of several SDN-related books, highly praised webinars, and dozens of OpenFlow and SDN-related technical articles published on his blog.
Ivan will speak about: “Making Sense of Software-Defined World”
Listening to the vendors selling networking solutions, one would think that all the problems you ever had have been solved - you just need to buy the next magic software-defined or intent-based product. Not so fast - the laws of physics haven’t changed and so you still cannot ignore the principles of good network design regardless of how your network is implemented. In his keynote, Ivan Pepelnjak will address the challenges of dynamic virtual networks (ideally implemented as Network-as-a-Service) that are hard to implement with traditional approaches, the risks of controller-based networking, and the opportunities software-defined networking presents for enterprises and traditional networking engineers.
Pere Monclus is the CTO in the Networking and Security Business Unit at VMware, Pere is defining the strategy and leading an innovation team driving the evolution of networking in the current cloud native application and multi-cloud world. Before that he was the CTO and co-founder of PLUMgrid, acquired by VMware, where he led the development of products and technologies around SDN for Cloud and Containers as well as innovations in the area of Programmable Dataplanes, including jumpstarting the IOvisor Linux Foundation project. Previously a Distinguished Engineer at Cisco where he worked in multiple successful products in the area of Security, Load Balancing and Data Centers. He holds over 30 patents and a double MSEE from Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya and Politecnico di Torino.
Pere will speak about: "Network and Security in the Cloud Native Application world"
In this talk Pere will cover how Data Centers have matured to the current Network Virtualization based design. Now, with the Cloud and Digital Transformation market forces he will cover how networking is evolving to adjust to the needed security paradigms.
